Pedometer watches are a great combination between practicality and convenience. The days of having to clip a pedometer to your belt are over. We’ve now got pedometers that come as watches, so you get all the usefulness of a standard pedometer, but without any of the inconvenience.

You might think that because these watch pedometers are small and lightweight that they have fewer functions or features than a normal pedometer. Not so. In fact the Tech 4 O accelerator pedometer watch that I’m recommending has more features than most.

The Tech 4 O accelerator watch will suit you whatever level of activity you’re doing. You might have picked up from the name that this cool little gadget uses accelerator technology to measure your movement. For us, than means accurate counting and distance measurement.

Not only will it measure your steps, it will also tell you how fast you are travelling. Want to know how many calories you’ve burned? No problem. And with it’s built in stop watch and countdown timer you won’t lose track of time either.

In addition to all that, it’s also got a personality profile facility which allows you to set your specific weight, average stride distances for walking and running to make sure you get super accurate results. And yes, it can tell the difference between walking and running!

Summary

The Tech 4 0 accelerator series watch will fit the bill whether you’re a hardcore hiker, an accomplished runner, or simply making sure you meet your doctor’s recommended 10,000 steps a day. The advanced accelerator technology will provide highly accurate measurement of your speed, steps, distance, time and calories burned all via a simple wrist sensor.

All things considered, the Omron HJ-112 is one of the best digital pedometers on the market today. It manages to strike a balance between great features, competitive price, and impressive usability. It all results in a pedometer that will appeal to just about everyone.

I think one of the reasons the HJ-112 has such an appeal, is that it’s one of two pedometers that uses the new dual sensor technology that allows it to be used in your pocket, purse or bag rather than on your wrist. And the amazing thing is it works really well, keeping very accurate track of your activity whether it’s calorie burning or number of steps and distance.

With its lithium battery it’s supposed to last up to 6 months, and that’s with an average of 10,000 steps each day – which is a lot of walking on one battery!

I must admit that I found this pedometer to be brilliant. I have used other models, but none of them managed to beat the Omron HJ-112. The closest was the Omron HJ-720ITC pedometer, and to be honest if I wanted to keep data on my computer I would have actually gone for that one, but as I don’t need the PC download facility the HJ-112 wins.

You might be wondering whether the HJ 112 can be used for jogging. I can confirm that it works well for both walking and jogging. To be honest, I didn’t buy it with the intention of going jogging, but it’s amazing how much fitter you get after only a month or two of consistent exercise.

I have a small circuit which I walked around each day, but I soon found myself with the urge to jog for a bit, so that’s what I did. It wasn’t long before I was doing as much jogging as walking, and now I jog for most of the way. I’m almost certain I wouldn’t have done that without the HJ 112 pedometer.

Summary

If you’re looking for a reliable and rugged pedometer that will last, and you’re not particularly bothered about connecting it to your computer, then the Omron digital pedometer model HJ 112 is probably what you should go for. I certainly recommend it.

If you’re not going to be the person doing the walking and you’re thinking about buying this pedometer for someone else, the HJ 112 will make an ideal gift. It’s got just about all you need to keep track of your activity, and it’s also really easy to use, not to mention being a very cool gadget. I think one of these would be a great way to show someone you really care about them.

Whether you’re looking for the ideal gift or just have the urge to improve your own fitness, an Omron HJ 720ITC pedometer could be just the answer. These pedometers are the latest and greatest from Omron and are suitable for all types of exercise.

The best thing about them is that unlike more traditional pedometers, they can be dropped into your purse or pocket and will still accurately track your activity. Now you can find out exactly how much exercise you’re getting each day, whether it’s at work, shopping or walking the dog.

I’ve got one of these and I find it by far the easiest to use of all the pedometers I’ve had. Although you can fix it to your belt like a normal pedometer, it’s so much easier to drop it in your pocket. I’m not sure how it manages to work so well in my pocket, but it does.

The Omron HJ 720ITC pedometer has got a lovely big display that’s really easy to read. When it’s not showing you information about your exercise, it’s acts as a digital clock, which I found surprisingly useful. It can show you how many steps you’ve taken, how many calories you’ve burned, how far you’ve travelled, or how many aerobic steps you’ve taken, so long as you’ve walked for more than 10 minutes without stopping.

This model also has a 7 day history of activity, so at the end of each week you can easily see how much you’ve done. It’s got an even bigger 42 day memory which allows you to transfer the last 6 weeks of data to your computer. This will let you build up a record of how you’ve changed over weeks or months.

That’s good because the 720ITC pedometer comes with the Omron Health Management Software package which lets you see graphs of your information.

Once you’ve installed this on your computer you’ll be able to see your activity trends over time, and also blood pressure date ..etc. I find that being able to see how my activity trends on a weekly or monthly basis really helps me a lot with motivation as I can easily see my improvements.

Although this does cost a little bit more than other pedometers, the extra features you get make it easily worth it. I think the best thing is that I can take it with me for the day and then in the evening I can check how many steps I’ve taken that day, and whether I’ve reached the recommended 10,000. It’s funny, but if I don’t make the target one day, I’ll find myself doing a bit more walking the next day to try and catch up! It’s a great way to get exercise, and lots of fun too.

Summary

If you’re looking for a gift that’s useful and fun, this is a great choice. Don’t be surprised if you start to borrow it from your partner though – they are addictive! And of course this item will be a great gift for yourself too, especially with most of us trying to get into shape! With your Omron HJ 720ITC pedometer at least you’ll be well prepared.

Where can you buy the Omron HJ 720-ITC for the cheapest price? Well, I keep my eye open for bargains, deals and special offers, but there’s one place which consistently has the best price for these pedometers, and that’s Amazon.

Pedometers are fantastic fitness gadgets, suitable for anyone. If you don’t know what they are, basically they keep track of how many steps you have taken, whether you’re out for a walk or running or jogging.

They are brilliant for all sorts of reasons, no tjust counting steps. For example, most people are hopeless at accurately judging how much exercise they are getting day to day. We all tend to over estimate our efforts (and underestimate our eating!). With a pedometer, there is no guess work – it’s there in black and white.

So if you’re starting an exercise or fitness program, even if it’s just going out for a walk each day, a pedometer is the perfect way of tracking your efforts, and just as importantly, your improvement over time. One of the biggest problems with trying to get fit, lose weight, or burn calories, is keeping yourself motivated. A pedometer will make a big difference here – you’ll see exactly how far you have walked and you can compare that against any targets or goals you have.

One of the things you need to do when you first get your pedometer, is calibrate it. That sounds very technical, but all it means is that you need to work out how big your steps are and put that into the pedometer’s settings. Once you know how big one of your steps is, you can work out how far you have travelled in total.

Don’t think that pedometers are just for people who are taking formal exercise. Any movement is exercise, so even if you are walking (or running) for the bus, spending an hour or so in your local shopping mall, or exercising the dog, you’ll probably be surprised just how much exercise you’re taking yourself.

This is another one of the benefits of using a pedometer – when you realize how much exercise you are actually getting, you’ll feel good about yourself! There’s a big difference between thinking you just did some window shopping and knowing for a fact that you did 2 miles worth of exercise.

Some of the more advanced pedometers can also calculate how many calories you are burning. Wouldn’t that be great? You could go do some shopping, and then when you get back you could relax knowing you’d done some real exercise and burned off some of those calories? With a bit of luck, you might even turn it into a habit. I mean the exercise, not the shopping!

Well, please take a look around the site. I’ll be adding more information on pedometers and how you can sue them to improve your life. I also hope to do some reviews of particular pedometers, so if you have any request, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment.
